Cozy Hotel at reasonable priceI was amazed at how affordable this hotel can be, the service is good, breakfast buffet selection is complete and with english speaking staffs to assist you 24/7. It is also near the MRT station. I'll see you again Fullerton Hotel.
You know what you're gettingNot a premium hotel nor does it pretend to be one. At under AUD100 per night, for an 8 x nights' stay, my expectations were for a decent sized room with the standard amenities to make my stay reasonable comfortable and hassle-free. What I got was more, with a surprise upgrade to the business level to a room of more than 30 metres square in size, with multiple wifi and ethernet connections for the internet, bathrobes, room slippers, complimentary bottles of water and beverages each day, cable TV, king-sized beds, and room safe. Yes, admittedly, the decor and furniture are somewhat dated but these were not the reasons for my accommodation stay at the Fullerton (East). So, this aspect of the room did not bother me. Everything in the room functioned as they should. So, no problem in this department. I also picked the Fullerton for its location, which was close to the Nanjin Sanmin and Taipei Arena metro stations. There are also plenty of night and morning markets around the general vicinity of the hotel. These are great for quick bites of Taiwanese delicacies and cheap retail items. Be adventurous and you'll be amply rewarded. A 30 minutes walk beckons to the tallest building in Taipei 101; no real need to catch public transport if you're willing to do some sight-seeing while walking there.
So if you don’t mind non-existent customer service and don’t need good quality breakfast or decor, this is your place! While the location of the hotel is conveniently located near various Taiwan tour spots, the overall experience at the hotel was very poor. The cleanliness of the room was decent; however, the rooms themselves were very dated with yellowing wallpaper and does not feel at all worth the price we paid. The beds were as advertised and can definitely sleep 4 people comfortably but weren't super comfortable. In addition, the breakfast that cost us an additional $13 a day per person was far below standard expectations from other Taipei hotels of the same caliber and we were sorely disappointed every morning by the experience. We also constantly overheard other customers at the breakfast complaining about the quality and selection of the food so we were definitely not alone in this assessment. Finally, the customer service provided at the hotel front desk was non-existent and I believe they need to be retrained on what customer service actually means. There seemed to be a communication gap between booking.com (the site we used to reserve the hotel) and the hotel and whenever we had any issues with the hotel stay, we were told to complain to booking.com because it’s not the hotel’s problem, even though we are guests at the hotel... For instance, the breakfast costs an additional $13/day per person so it was assumed that when we booked the quadruple room for “3 people” that we would be paying for and receiving 3 people breakfast. However, when we arrived, we had received breakfast tickets for 4 people so we were unsure if this meant that we actually paid for 4 people breakfast or the hotel made a mistake. When we went to the front desk to ask about this, we were told that this is booking.com’s problem and they simply took the extra breakfast tickets back, treating us as if we were greedy for trying to get more terrible breakfast from them. Overall, they were very unhelpful and every time we had an issue with the hotel stay, we were just told that it’s booking.com’s problem. So in a nutshell, that was our experience with the hotel’s customer service – non-existent, because every issue we had was someone else’s problem, not the hotel’s. So if you don’t mind non-existent customer service and don’t need good quality hotel breakfast or nice décor (in other words, just want a bed to sleep in for the night), this hotel would be a good choice at it is located close to many tourist spots. All I can say is that they did a really good job with the photos on booking.com because the hotel was nothing like those photos.
GOOD HOTELThe hotel is centrally located in Taipei and has easy connectivity with Airport and Exhibition Centre. The rooms are well made. The service at the reception is very good and the staff is friendly. The house keeping staff was also very courteous. The restaurant also serves delicious food. Yes , the hotel is old and needs renovation, but for budget travellers it is a good place to stay. My overall experience was good.
Goodness. The name had me fooledThe name of the hotel is from a somewhat reputable chain so when I narrowed down the district and the price I assumed it was a decent place. My friends already warned me it’s somewhat old/ run down so I won’t charge them against this. We got there to be informed all air conditioning to the hotel is broken, being fixed with no confirmed date it can be resumed ( they mentioned it could be one night only yet no promises ), so the hotel suggested opening windows (we complied and checked in). Once we got in we received a notice that the entire hotel will he under pest control the next day and we went to advise them that unless their air condition resumes, we would like to opt out on your pest control (with poor ventilation and no air flow it would surely be horrible to breathe in pesticide for the rest of the time!). Mind u all what “run down” means. I have never seen hotels with ripped and curled carpets all along the hallways with a poor moisture moldy smell (likely coz there was no air con), the walls and wooden doors were seriously chipped and banged up. Our wooden front door had wooden slivers sticking out! Bathrooms were stuck in a time warp with blow dryers like old vacuum cleaner tubes and as much as they try to clean it, the aged-old stains remain all over the bathroom ..... we were lucky they finally transferred us to their other branch in the SOUTH which is much more modern (and pricey) yet they did not charge us more for this swap.
