    Good Hotel

Very nice hotel to stay while in Taipei...very clean room, fresh beddings, towels and toiletries everyday. Good location, just near Taipei Main Train station. Staff are all friendly and helpful, special thanks to Shane, speaks english very well! Although the hotel dont serve free breakfast, just walk a few minutes and you will find 711. We will definitely book again when going back to Taiwan! Thank you, we enjoyed our stay!

    Great Location

The room was small but comfortable and well-appointed. I was on the first floor and it was a bit noisy at times. Good A/C. Very clean. Good water pressure and hot water. Excellent coffee in the mornings. The staff was not a helpful with information as I was would like, but that may have been a language issue.

    Staff knows what to do

The staff at the Ulysses Hotel knows what they are doing. This is a small hotel, meaning that front desk people also get rooms ready for new arrivals. Why is this good? It's good because the staff have first hand experience with conditions when guests are out or when they leave. The staff have more than a front desk experience of guests. My opinion is this experience makes the staff better at anticipating and fulfilling guest needs or requests. The hotel is very small, and appears to have been converted recently from efficiency apartments (套房). Even if this is not so, the architect made good use of the available space. But this leads to an unpleasant reality many other budget Taipei hotels share. Perhaps 1/2 of the rooms are windowless and quite small. Even for travelers who want only an affordable place to sleep and bathe, these dark, uniformly spartan accommodations probably are at the bottom of the list of desirable rooms. Other than the above, which is not a minor complaint, but about which the hotel staff can do absolutely nothing, the rooms are up-to-date and clean, the attention to small details such as tables in a sunny room where families can eat together (unless a 13-15 year-old master of the universe brought a phone), and the location is very near all forms of transportation: Taibei Railroad Station for trains and high-speed rail, Taibei Bus Station for local & long distance buses, Taibei MRT with great subway connections throughout the city, and the express MRT to/from Taoyuan Airport. Believe it or not, these are all separate stations that are connected by literally miles of bright, clean underground corridors lined with 7/11s, Family Marts, restaurants, bakeries, Starbucks, boutiques for clothes, luggage, knick-knacks, penny arcades for many teens and a few geezers,,...and on and on.... Back to the hotel: The Ulysses Hotel is literally steps away from an underground shopping "mall" (中山地下街)that connects directly to the stations listed above. The hotel is just across the street from the exit, maybe 200 feet if that much. So, there you have it. The Ulysses Hotel has a lot going for it, and the staff contributed mightily to this traveler's opinion. Considering that it caters to the not-so-well-heeled, it offers better than just good value for the rates charged. Did I mention the hotel has a laundry facility guests can use? And a microwave for guests? And complimentary coffee / tea in the lobby? Didn't think so. The big question is whether or not the owners continue to attend to the details and keep the Ulysses in good shape. Many hotels in Taibel do not.

    Nice location and friendly staffs

Booked the standard double room with window facing the road and was surprised at how spacious the room and the toilet was. There was no issues with opening 2 suitcases and piling bags of loots from shopping. Downside was the sound insulation of the room may not be that great but still acceptable to me. The pillows were also quite soft. And something which others have mentioned was the moldy smell of the carpet in the room. Really hope the management will be able to do something about it.The staffs were friendly and room was promptly cleaned everyday. The lounge area thou small but were very cozy and nicely decorated. Check in time is 3pm so you can drop your luggage at the counter and go off for your lunch if you are early. The hotel is tucked at a corner located along huayin street which is just next to Q square so travelling is a breeze as you can just walk to the TRA/HSR/MRT and Airport MRT station without wasting too much time. To locate the hotel, you can either look for Zhongshan underground mall and exit via R2 and the hotel is just opposite exit R2 less than 50m or look for Q square and exit near Hi-Life on level 1. And since it's located near Taipei main station, it also means that shopping is so accessible to you with the various underground malls, breeze mall and Q square. Settling your meal is also nothing to worry about except if you are hungry at night as there's isn't much eateries opened nearby so I suggest that you buy some snacks just in case unless you are willing to walk a distance. There's a new hotpot shop named "roudoudou" which was opened recently recommended by the hotel staff and it really taste great with top notch service so do hop over when you are staying at Ulysses. Overall, I will recommend staying at Ulysses if you are looking at accessibility. The street is very quiet at night so there's no noise pollution issues. But try not to get a room on the 1st floor located near the counter or a room near the lift.

We stumbled on this place after arriving late at night with no prebooking. A small hotel with 24 hour reception! Cute and very well equipped room (even supplied condoms 😄). Comfortable bed, super-friendly helpful staff, free coffee, free washer, and lots of other extras. A great introduction to Taiwan, and would have no hesitation coming back. Highly recommended.
