    Strategically Located in Ximending

We stayed in twin bed rooms for 5 nights in August 2019. The room was not huge but clean. The amenities were good. Free WIFI in the rooms. Breakfast buffet was okay. They can also provided meal box because we had to leave early in the morning. The location is great. The hotel is near Exit 6 of Ximen Station. Overall, we had a pleasant stay in Westgate Hotel.

4.5 stars for location alone, pleasant stay

The location of this hotel cannot be beat. Ximending and a whole host of activities, restaurants etc are a stone’s throw away. Yet it is not smack in the centre where the noise and activity level can get to you - it feels like a cosy calm oasis within the buzz. We had a windowless double room and a suite. Minibar was complimentary in both rooms and the extra large King bed in the suite was extremely comfortable. Good quality toiletries were provided and breakfast had variety with some changes in the two mornings we ate there. Areas of possible improvement would be making WiFi available hotel wide and not tied to the room, getting rid of the musky smell in the lobby (which is not present at all upstairs) and rearranging the layout of the room such that the sink doesn’t stare at you in your face the moment you enter the door. The suite layout is set up like a studio apartment which is understandable but even the double room had this layout which was puzzling.

    Good hotel

Hotel is just 5 min away from Ximending. Service is very good; with umbrellas provided when it rained during my stay. There was no window view of the street; the only view of the outside is only a small portion where there is sunlight. I was there for 4 nights, and the breakfast though adequate never change

    Superb well located hotel

We spent almost a week at the Westgate Hotel. It is one of the pricier hotels in Ximending and we stayed in a windowless "cosy" room. It was great. Comfy bed, big TV, fridge, good amenities and a well maintained room. The hotel has interesting artwork in the lobby with smaller displays on each floor - visually a nice environment. There is a tiny laundromat on Floor 2 which we loved and used several times. There is also a small gym with views across the street outside. On the same floor is a business center we didn't use. The breakfast buffet, whilst mostly unchanged from day to day, was of a high standard with a good range of western and Asian options. The staff running the restaurant were friendly and nice without fail. I'd rate the employees at this hotel as superb - always ready with a smile, to offer an umbrealla when it rained, they even helped out when a typhoon delayed our high speed rail connection to Kaohsiung by calling the railway office and our Kaohsiung Hotel to sort things out. They did a really good job of making us feel welcome. Location wise it's under 1 minute walk to Ximending's maze of neon and the subway is right next door. In my view Ximending is the most engaging part of Taipei with lots to see do and eat. We will certainly be back, and recommend Westgate highly.

    Awesome stay in Taipei

My six nights in Taipei could not have been better thanks in part to the fine stay I had at the Westgate Hotel. The location is perfect. There is an MRT subway stop right outside the door and the train system is easy to navigate, remarkably clean and efficient and inexpensive, too. From the hotel it was easy to get to cultural sites by train or taxi. The Ximen area is right there. Very lively, brimming with shops, restaurants and lots of neon lights. A bit like their Times Square. Also a short walk away is the Red House area with gay bars, restaurants and shops. The staff at the hotel is lovely and very customer service oriented. They were observant and responsive and helpful. The room itself was well appointed and comfortable. I took an executive room for the time, which included a separate area with sofa, table and chairs. There was a stocked mini bar although it did not include beer. No worries, there is a 7-11 around the corner where I picked up my own brew. The Taiwan beer is nice and refreshing after a day in the warm and humid Taipei climate. The room was quiet and I was never disturbed. The housekeeping staff was respectful and thorough. The fitness center is very small and not adequate for a serious workout, but there is a gym in the nearby area. The breakfast buffet that is included is pretty much a standard affair offering average quality food with an Asian flair. Noodles instead of potatoes, yogurt, muffins, etc. I had an early flight out and the staff arranged for a car to be ready and included a nice breakfast box to take with me. Super added touch. All in all, I was delighted with my stay at the Westgate and loved my Taipei experience. I would recommend this hotel without reservation and will certainly stay here again when I return. And I would like to return.
