It's like living with our favourite AuntieIn terms of location, you are in the midst of Xi Men Ding. Metro is only one minute walk away. In terms of eating, shopping, entertaining, you are in the heart of it. Mei Lodge is more like a Bed without the Breakfast. And it is priced accordingly. Mei Lodge is a family business, established since 1965. The proprietor, as I called her endearingly as Auntie lives here too. She's fanatical about cleanliness and she's very down-to-earth too. You would know when she's out as she would close her office/sitting area. Whenever I have free time, I would head down there and have a yarn with her. She's respectful of my space, and being a night owl, whenever I open the door in the morning, fresh towels and two bottles of water would be deposited right by the door. Being a doting Auntie, in the evening, she would knock on my door and instructed me that it's time to change my bed sheet. Being a local resident and proactive with her community, she knows Xi Men Ding inside out. Naturally, she knows where to recommend you to go. The room is compact but it has everything that I need, such as a comfy bed, good pressure hot water, strong wifi. Her payment system is cash and she would record her payment in her ledger book, which is still being filled in with pencil. If you are an English speaker, you might be out of luck because she doesn't speak any but she's fluent in Japanese to complement her Mandarin and Fukienese dialect. Majority of her clientele are from South East Asia such as Malaysia and Singapore anyhow. All in all, there are fifteen rooms here, some small and some large. Despite that it's located inside Xi Men Ding, it's actually located in a small lane, and thus, it's not noisy by any means. I wish her to do better than what it is now. At the end of the day, Mei Lodge is a lifestyle choice and Auntie is contented the way it is now. Highly recommended.
poor service... they forgot our reservation!!!we booked 2 rooms and confirmed the reservation by phone and by email more than one month ago before our departure, but while calling to inform about our arrival in advance, they said we didn't make the reservations...the truth is that they forgot to arrange our reservation and they also said it was our fault not calling for double check!!!!! this just ruined our travel plans....those who want to say there please make sure you are lucky and won't go through this like us.....

Keen to shareIt has been a long time that I never feel so keen to share a review on a stay. But Mei Lodge is the exceptional one. I visited Taiwan 5D4N and stayed in 3 hotels. Mei Lodge is the only one I reviewed and can't wait to share how excellent the overall value that I received. Firstly, the hotel is located just opposite the Riverside Live House, which is the backside of The Red House of XiMenDing. The road is slightly narrow which is not so possible accessed by 4 wheel vehicle, however, just a few steps walk from the junction. And due to its location, the hotel is peaceful and quiet. There are convenient stores, cosmetic store just around the corner, not to say the pub/bistro in XiMenDing, they just across the road, and you're ready for the fancy nightlife. Walking in the XiMenDing, karaOK is all in a stone throw. The owner directed our driver and welcomed us at the junction. Carried my luggage and lead us to the lodge. Check-in is speedy (after she jotted passport number and payment=grab your room key), as not much procedure needed. The room is clean, spacious (IMO) and well decorated. 2 double bed on the wooden floor with soft and comfortable pillow and blanket. Equipped with basic amenities. Bathroom is compact but is OK for us as we are not sleep in there :) Water pressure is strong and do mind to avoid continuous usage as the heater tank may running out of hot water. Most important, the owner is very, very, very kind, informative, helpful and attentive. She told me where to buy CD (my request), to drink nice coffee, to buy face mask and where to get a local taste (not the typical tourist queuing stall). Do ask the owner on how to go to the 60 years old shop where I packed our dinner. It rarely got all my family members (4 of ours) thumbs up for all the food sold there. Unfortunately, we unable to get the oyster noodle as it sold out (and closed for the next day). However, we really thankful to the owner who made our trip a really localised (in taste and hospitality service). She also helped to get me a carton box to packed all my souvenir stuff with masking tape. The price is much lower compare to other budget hotel (TWD 2,450 for quad room in 5th day of Chinese New Year). No breakfast is served as you can go to any shop out there to wake your taste bud up. The hotel charted at 1 star but overall feel like 4 star (or more). No fake smile, no pretended attentive concierge and no unnecessary-fancy-space-occupied items. Everything is simple and nice. I'd recommend to any of my friends and family who would like to travel to Taipei and definitely, for myself, the next trip.

Friendly owner & nice locationJust check out from hotel this morning. She arranged a private car also for us which only cost NTD750 to Taoyuan Airport early morning. Since is troublesome to go by Bus. Very friendly owner which give another suggestion where to go and eat and some transport information since google sometimes give the wrong bus info. Room was nice and clean (Family style hotel) but only I deduct one star due the bed is small which if u are 6feet patron your leg will be out from bed. Location of the Hotel is nice. You may google meilodge and contact owner directly which I cant found that I can pay via Credit Card. So I just have to pay cash upon check in. Double Room normal day only cost NTD1650. Hot/Cold for refill and Free Wifi :)
Friendly Owner and clean room. The lady owner is very friendly and the family room with an extra bed is just nice for us but there is no cupboard. The bed is comfortable. The power point is not so accessible and we have to climb all the way up to the 3rd storey with our own luggage as there is no lift.
