"Black Hand of Craftsmanship II" explores the concept of transformation and handcrafted reconstruction. This exhibition features a series of works collaboratively produced by artist Wu Chien-Hsing and skilled mechanics. Using the mechanics' daily vehicle repair tasks as a starting point, the exhibition invites the mechanics to work together to shape and form the pieces.
The initial focus is on the concept of "shaping." The artist reimagines the vehicle body and its parts, deconstructing and transforming them through the distinctive skills of the mechanics. This process converts discarded vehicle elements into artwork, blending artistic and manual craftsmanship. By removing, adding, and altering the shape of the vehicle, they create sculptural works that challenge societal, political, and consumer culture values.
"Black Hand of Craftsmanship II" connects the histories of the artist's family and the industry, refining these discarded vehicle elements into potential sculptures and installations.
