This research-focused museum houses an extensive collection of archeological artifacts from mainland China and Taiwan, opening a window to the early history and culture of both sides. In recent years, the museum has also been using digital archiving technology to expand international access to these cultural treasures and ensure that they survive for the benefit of future generations. The rare exhibits bring Chinese history and culture vividly alive.

    Hiddne gem: simply superb

This is not a well known museum, and is clearly off the beaten track. One of the several museums on the campus of Academia Sinica (near the Nangang MRT station - take a cab from the station, is about 100-120 NTD). Only open only Wed and weekends: and Wed is an excellent time to go since you will have the museum to yourself. And what a collection! Stunning display of various top tier (i.e. National Treasure level) artifacts in both the permanent exhibition as well as the special exhibition on Eastern Zhou bronzes. Nice environment and fairly detailed explanatory notes. Not to be missed for lovers of Chinese culture and history

    Nice and interesting

On Academia Sinica campus, a nice collection of ancient weapons, ink rubbing and archeological findings. Only opens on Weds and weekends. Free admission.

    Excellent collection, must visit it

I went to this museum by accident. It has exquisite collections. It is a hidden gem in Taipei. It only opens to public on Wed and Sat. The collection from a king's tomb and on minority on SW China blew me away. The best free museum I have ever been to. Do not miss it. Since it is located in the Academia Sinica, the best way is to get off Nangang station and take bus to the Academia Sinica. Or taxi.
