The "South Airport," or "Nanjichang," was the name of a military airstrip used by the Japanese during their occupation of Taiwan. This area was subsequently developed with military and government housing communities, which in turn provided the human activity to support the gradual rise of "Nanjichang Night Market."
One popular shop in the market sells Taiwanese meatballs for just two hours a day. Customer's queue for the limited supply, and latecomers are likely to leave empty-handed. Seafood sauté eateries with selections at just NT$70 per plate are other favorites at the market thanks to their generous portions and budget prices. Stinky tofu, clay oven rolls, fried oysters, and shaved ice sweets are also among the must-try treats at Nanjichang Night Market.

OkDidn't really like this night market. The food on offer didn't appeal to me. Your opinion may be different though.
Night Market for localsThis night market is rather small but it's very localized. Lots of the established shops have pretty long queues. Worth visiting if you are in the area otherwise it's pretty similar to other night markets.
No tourist, true marketThis is a really nice night market, with excellent food. There are no tourists which I found really cool. Go there if you want a true street food experience ;)

Small market with 99% food only. This is a locals food market. Small in size and definitely catering to local food tastes. Only a few non food stalls. Food looked good and tasty.
A night market I don't want you to knowIt's under the radar of most tourists, and personally, I like to keep it that way selfishly because it's one of the last local night markets where food is great, the price is economical and traffic is light (compare to others). The Nanjichang Night Market (南機場夜市) is somewhat difficult to get to. If you don't believe me, I dare you to ask your Taipei friends, 5 of 10 would tell you they never heard the place, 3 would say you they have no idea how to get there, 2 might adventure with you, and maybe 1 can take you with great confidence. If you safely arrived the night market, no worry, just follow the lineup and prepare to blow away with local delicates. With no time in the future, you will be the 1 to take other friends back with you.
