"The Guest House, Sheraton Taipei Hotel" uses black and white images of Zhouzhuang and Suzhou to create the riverside scenery which matches beautifully with Szechwan and Yangzhou Cuisine. Their classic dishes including "The Braised Noodles with Yellow Fish Broth" and "Suzhou style Steamed Pork Dumplings" etc. all represent the traditional and original tastes. "The Braised Pork Knuckles with Rock Sugar", especially, uses pork knuckles containing rich gel and tendons instead of the fatty pork, and moreover, some red rice germs are added in to reduce cholesterol. So it has become the healthy specialty in "The Guest House."

Beautiful attention to detailWe were treated to a business lunch here but it was just after we stepped off the plane so were in a bit of a daze. I've never eaten in a two star Michelin restaurant before so not sure what to compare it with. But all the food was fragrant and beautifully presented. The staff also extremely attentive. If it hadn't been the middle of the nigh, my time, I would have eaten more but it was good to try a bit of everything. The fish was stunning. Having spent the next four days eating more traditional food in Taiwan I realise how spoilt we were!

A good hotel dining optionAfter a long day of travel and customer meetings we were pleasantly surprised by the dining experience on the lower level of the Sheraton hotel. The dumplings were delicious and the menu featured a wide range of other options. We sampled many plates and enjoyed everything.
Worst Michelin ExperienceThe food blog continues...请客楼 The Guest House has a rather huge dining floor taken up 2 floors. There is no one standing right outside waiting for you, no greeting whatsoever. Stood in front of the main door, some one came to me few minutes later. I have been seated, then I waited for another 10 minutes. Some one realised and she asked what do I want for tonight’ dinner. I opted for the set menu. Not going to elaborate more as none of a single dish worth for extra words. Not to mention the dessert- boiled Hasma Soup which being presented in a plain bowl with spoon in it and threw on the table. As mentioned, not going to talk about the food but the service which I seldom emphasise. I have to request for tea few times in between dishes-which I am very pissed as in i am so dried? No explanation, not even once during the food presentation. The worst scenario happened when the waitress has handful of dishes and she gave me an signal. Ok! You want me to remove the plate from the table and you can pass me the following dish from your palm. This is Michelin 2 stars restaurant- NO JOKE! Being one of the very few 2 starred Chinese restaurant, how terrible a restaurant service could be? Will I get back to THE GUEST HOUSE to be their GUEST again? HELL NO. Overall: 5/10
New dishes worth the detourLast week I was invited at the guest house and having been there several times since the awarding of two stars i believed I had seen everything and appreciated it. I had as the entry an incredible plant which difficult to find as situated in unfriendly environment. Then a delightful soup with jaw of grouper is another unique experience. Of course all other dishes were excellent but known. These two dishes have to be tasted.

New Taiwan cuisine with traditional ingredientsFriends of our invited us there for lunch, their menu consist of most popular traditional dishes but their chef used his talent to create a more tasty & healthier choice. Mainly small plate which consist of cold dishes, steam buns & dumplings, rice & noodles, creative stir fries & some unique salads
