The shuttle traverses across the weaving machine and colored cambrics form crisscrossing patterns of latitude and longitude, while the loom presses the cambric tight with dull thudding sounds as perceptible as the beating of a heart. These are the life stories of Taiwan's aboriginal women. The Institute of Taiwan History and Institute of Ethnology, Academia Sinica, and the Academia Sinica Center for Digital Cultures have joined in the organization of "Latitudes and Longitudes--Weaving the Life Stories of Taiwanese Aborigine, Special Exhibit," open from January 26 to May 27, 2016. The exhibition will be showcased in the Academia Sinica Digital Culture Exhibition Center, and will feature digitl archive images, technologies, real costumes, and weaving artifacts. The interactive show will initiate viewers into the world of aboriginal weaving using interactive presentations. Visitors will be able to experience the amazing culture and landscapes symbolized by the colors and patterns of the woven fabric. This exhibit revolves around the life experiences of Taiwanese aboriginal women and the symbolic meaning of their traditional costumes. It is a revelation of the intricate associations between the weaving traditions and rites of passage of the Pan-Atayal (Atayal, Truku, Seediq), the Paiwan, the Kavalan, and the Pan-Siraya tribal groups.
