It just got even better than bestOn April 29, 2019, I reviewed out stay at Les Suites Taipei Ching Cheng as "by the best, I mean it" . Well during my 4 stay stay last week, it got even better. Excellent location, many good eateries nearby, great in house coffee lounge, tini hours, quality breakfast, room facilities, etc.. all these you have read in the hundreds of other very favourable reviews. I just want to reiterate about the wonderful staff. We always enjoy Taipei, because we stay at Les Suites. The staff became even more excellent since April. Coming back to a sanctuary at the end of a hectic day, They never fail to make you feel welcome back home. They are caring about how our day went, about refreshments and chiilax we need, dinner reservations, etc. Those who took care of us so well were Alan, Hedy, Sean and Gary. The manager Jack made time to welcome us and offered any assistance we needed, though they have anticipated our every requirement. We are taken care off in the Taiwanese tradition of taking care of Elders. This is home for us in Taipei, and we value that very much.

Awesome Customer ServiceWe are a party of five booking one suite and one deluxe room in October. I am impressed with their excellent customer services: always open doors for us when we are coming or leaving, check-in was done sitting down in their lounge, helped with multiple requests cheerfully, checked my flight making sure it was leaving on time before letting me leave, etc. Probably due to its smaller size, the breakfast buffet selection is not as huge as other hotels. What it lack in selections, made up in cook-to-order noodles, rice, eggs. LImited to one per person though. It was nice to have a lounge that have 24-hour tea and coffee services. The cookies were bad though. The evening wine was surprisingly good. Don't forget to try a street food vendor one block on the left hand side of the hotel. He serves a hot pepper bao - like a hamburger within a closed bun. It is absolutely delicious. He only works in the afteroon Monday through Friday. A famous beef noodle place within walking distance from the hotel. The Dona Salon that the hotel recommended was disappointing that head massage that I thought was a Taipei tradition was only five seconds. I would look for a different salon next time.

Not good value for familyOur family of 4 stayed here with another couple toward the end of July for 4 nights. It seems that this boutique hotel is frequented by older and retired travelers from Japan. We're probably the only family with kids there the entire time and definitely does not cater to kids. It may be suitable for a business traveler but is definitely a far cry from "luxury." The name "Les Suites" in French denotes "suite" but rooms are small and is no where near the term suite. We expected larger rooms but rooms are quite small for Taiwan's standard. After our visit here, we stayed at the Hilton and Conrad in Tokyo and considering how expensive Tokyo's real estate is, our rooms are spacious. This hotel is not comparable to Tokyo Conrad but if it can be considered as a 4+ stars (on this website which is very misleading), then Hilton Tokyo in Shinjuku would be comparable in term of category but comes with much better choices for breakfast. We paid similar price for a family of 4 at Hilton Shinjuku (executive level) with much better services and amenities. Les Suites will charge an extra $25/kid/day but with no thrills so if you add that up, Les Suites will not be good value for family ($200+/night) and we could have stayed at Shangri-la or Grand Hyatt for similar price during this period. To be fair, the hotel does provide plenty of toiletries and is clean and well kept though room does show signs of tiring and could use some upgrades. Service was adequate and nothing to rave about. Location is also very convenient because it's very close by to Taipei Songshan Airport for easy connection to Tokyo, off of Nanjing Fuxing Station and there're lots of eateries nearby, as well as small bun carts for breakfast. We're given a metro card (worth $10) upon check in while our friends were given a wifi hot spot. So not sure how the hotel determines which complimentary feature to give out. The hotel is across from Daiso Japan so we're able to pick up some cheap things that we forgot to bring. It is a short walk from Liaoning Street Night Market (not really a night market but rather just a street of seafood restaurants and is no where near the bustling street market like Shilin, Jiufen or Keelung Night Market). We had dinner at here after a massage at Omotesando (clean and reasonable) and it was ok (we had better elsewhere) and though we managed just fine, unless you can speak Chinese and know the prices, there's no pricing for the more expensive seafood items. We also had dinner at Mala Hotpot nearby (ayce, unlimited boba and alcohol and ice cream). As for day trip, we made private arrangement ourselves for a day trip to Jiufen, Shifen and Keelung Night Market as it's at least half the price quoted by the hotel. For local eateries, we definitely recommend the traditional and cheap breakfast at Yong He Soy Milk King (totally hit the spot) and cheap eat at Jin Feng Braised Pork Rice (a hole in the wall kind of place with a line so you know it's a good place). Overall, I would rate this hotel a mid 3 star for its value and would not recommend it as there're far better hotel choices with better value in Taiwan.
