Hiking trails, beautiful scenery, bamboo groves and hot springsThere are many areas to explore within the national park and a good place to hop off the round-the-park shuttle minibus is Xiaoyoukeng. Here you can observe the fumaroles and volcanic activity, and take a one-hour hike to the main peak of Mt Qixing. I would suggest that you then proceed to the eastern peak before descending towards Lengshuikeng or Menghuan Pond as this route seems easier and less steep. As you walk, you get to enjoy spectacular mountain views and observe interesting flora and fauna. The highlight of my day was soaking my feet and legs in the small communal outdoor hot springs. There is a also free public bath for those willing to bare all. There are several visitors' centres within the park with toilet facilities as well as places for weary hikers to rest and have a drink. By the end of the day, the queues for the shuttle minibus back to the main carpark, as well as the queues for the buses back to Taipei are very, very long. Unfortunately, by the time I managed to get on a bus back to Taipei it was evening peak hour and the bus was stuck in traffic jam. My advice would be to start your day in Yangmingshan early and leave as early as possible.
Great to wander aroundLovely park with easy trails. We visited on a weekday and practically had the park to ourselves. The ginger tea served at the gift shop at the top of the park was delicious.
AwesomeWe heed to Taipei main station for the 260 bus going to this national park using our EZ and i-pass card. I was with my Japanese friend. There's not much English translation in the signs (bus or signages in the parks) but the staff in the visitor centers are good in English and Japanese (and probably another language as well). Communing with nature in this lush forest and green trees is perfect. There was even a pre-nuptial photo op done when we were there. A lot of old people also trek at the time. The highlight of my experience was the bathing naked in a hot spring pool along with other women. So liberating. Just a piece of advice though, go out at 2 pm coz after that will be a problem finding a seat in the S15 bus going to Jiantan mrt station. After almost 2 hours of waiting, we decided to board a full packed bus, we stand for 20-25 minutes all the way to Jiantan station.
Grassland, Pine trees, Peaks, Ponds, Hot spring, Wild animals and more! The weather was so nice and not many people came here on weekdays. I saw a lot of small wild animals. Wind breeze, Green views, Clear blue sky (and Foggy - - sometimes) I walked in all trails available at a time so I ended up seeing Menghuan pond, Main peaks & East peaks, Pavillion, Grassland, Hot spring, Waterfalls, Milk pond, and suspension bridge. The trails were not difficult to climb and the weather. The park is very easy to come. I enter the park with Bus no. R5 and go back to MRT St. with Bus no. S5.
