A settlement built on the water – Huan Min Village on Toad Hill
At the southern end of Taipei Basin, Toad Hill is next to the National Taiwan University Gongguan business district. Huanmin Village, built along the hill, is the only entirely preserved Air Force military dependents’ village in Taipei City. There is a strong awareness of cultural preservation in the community, which is the best place to practice "presenting history in a community way."
In unique spaces such as ecology, community building, education, and architecture, it reviews the stories of the military dependents’ village era. It also preserves the mutual aid function of neighbors to introduce natural resources and carry out environmental learning. Huan Min Village will be developed into a sustainable mountain city military dependents village and become the best example of a military dependents’ village in Taipei, enriching the southern area's cultural connotation and local memory.
