Originally known as the Taiwan Daily News, it was formed by merging two Japanese newspapers, Taiwan Economic Journal and Taiwan Daily. It was the most significant and longest-running newspaper at the time. On October 26, 1945, on behalf of the Chief Executive Office, Wan-Ju Lee received the Taiwan Economic Journal and renamed it the Taiwan Shin Sheng Daily News, the only official newspaper. When the 228 Incident occurred in 1947, the general manager of the newspaper, Chao-Ri Ruan, and the editor-in-chief of the Japanese version, Wu Jin-Lian, were forcibly taken away by the Chief Executive Office of Taiwan Province, and their lives are still unknown.
