Admission is free during opening hours. Guided tours are available on weekends, and group tours on weekdays can be arranged by phone.

The village’s housing evolved over time according to the terrain, including Japanese-era structures, National Women’s League of the R.O.C. buildings, and self-built homes.

Beitou Heart Village is the only military dependents’ village in Taiwan with a public hot spring bath, offering a unique blend of hot springs, therapeutic experiences, daily life, and cherished memories.

Introduction

Beitou Heart Village is one of the 13 dependents’ village preservation zones approved by the Ministry of National Defense and is one of the few remaining fully intact dependents’ villages in Taipei City. The development of Beitou Heart Village is closely linked to the Tri-Service General Hospital Beitou Branch (formerly the Japanese Military Hospital, Beitou Branch). Its well-preserved variety of dependents’ housing from different periods, combined with Beitou’s distinctive historical context, hot spring culture, and living memories, makes Beitou Heart Village a significant historical site.

In 2021, the Taipei Culture Foundation took over the management of Beitou Heart Village. Through spatial activation and residency programs, it promotes preservation and redevelopment, supports local cultural and historical research, and encourages studies of dependents’ village culture. This initiative aims to establish a culturally rich and educational environment with a historical significance.

With the goal and future plan to be a “Taipei City Dependents’ Village Cultural Preservation Base (臺北市眷村文化保存基地),” Beitou Heart Village seeks to link resources from the Xinbeitou area and promoting regional connections and integration. It showcases Beitou’s diverse community stories and introduces new features and highlights to the area.
