Dadaocheng Wharf 大稻埕碼頭

Located near the No. 5 Water Gate on the banks of the Tamsui River, Dadaocheng Wharf thrived in earlier years as an entrepot for trade along the river. Tea, cotton and silk textiles were among the main products bought and sold here, attracting trading companies from across the western world. Dadaocheng's fortunes as a trading center went into decline during the Japanese colonial era. In recent years, however, this area has experienced a revival as a tourism destination, bicycling spot, and departure point for boat tours along the Tamsui River.

    River view

The pier is located far from metro station so if you’re looking for a stroll in the streets of Taipei it will suit you. There are some artworks in the pier and a light breeze from the river. We think there will be cruise boats but there were not. Nothing to do or see apparently.

    Nothing to rave about

the Pier is nothing to rave about. Not exactly an attraction that one would be excited. Can be given a miss

    Super hot!

We went a little after noon so it was really really hot! People were biking around and it's probably a nice hangout place if we went another time. I think it's better to go to Dadaocheng Wharf in the evening. Adding this to my bucket list the next time I go to Taiwan.

The pier is, in my opinion, simply a starting point to explore Taipei from a unique perspective- via a walking/biking path that wends its way along the city’s waterways. At the pier itself, there are boats that offer tours along with benches/seating areas. It’s close proximity to Dihua Street is a plus. The views from the pier are quite nice, especially with the nearby mountains standing in stark contrast to the dense cityscape that dominates both sides of the Tamsui River.

take a walk by Dadaocheng Wharf

Dadaocheng Wharf is very near Dihua road so you can explore both places while you are in the area. The wharf used to be the main trading area and boats would leave/arrive with their goods (tea, textiles, cotton and silk, but nowadays it is a place for locals to admire the river and bridges and enjoy a breeze from Tamsui river. There are walking and cycling paths and some huge graffiti just by the main gate . There are severakl interesting sculptures by the wharf, particularly one of an old boat.
