Zhinan Temple is located at the foot of Zhishan Mountain in Taipei's Wenshan District. Built in 1890, the temple is dedicated to the Daoist immortal Lu Tung-pin, better known as "Xiangong" or "Luzu." A scholar of the Tang period, Lu loved poetry and books. He successfully passed the provincial level imperial examination and became a county magistrate. Because of his pious devotion to the Dao, Lu's path crossed with that of the Daoist immortal Zhong Liquan, who showed him the way to enlightenment. Many mysterious and noble deeds were attributed to Lu, making him one of the best known and most-loved of the Daoist immortals in Taiwan.

Georgous temple perched on the mountain

it's one of the oldest temples in Taipei, founded in 1882. And one of the most beautiful for me. It should be a part of the trip to the Maokong Mountain and is accessible via the Maokong Gondola Zhinan Temple Station. This is a good place to come to escape the city. Inside the temple, you can find your guardian by matching your year of birth with his year of death. Then, you can think of your wish. It's also a terrific place to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery around Taipei and the good view at the Taipei 101 (if it's not a foggy day).

Take the MTR to Taipei Zoo and then the Maokong gondola up the mountain to this beautiful temple. This temple is really spectacular both inside and out and is one of the biggest we visited in Taipei, there are some amazing views from up here too. Definately worth visiting.

    Get away from it all

Get out of this otherwise cosmopolitan city and experience the real Taiwan. Peaceful, meditative ... wonderful respite from a lively city

    Our favorite temple

Chih Nan Temple is incredible. Perched above the city with beautiful views and secluded enough that not many people are there at once, it is the perfect way to escape the city and surround yourself with the serene environment of a temple.

Should be the final stop for the gondola

Zhinan Temple is a cliff side temple that was covered in scaffolding when we visited. Temples themselves weren’t anything special but the grounds offer a nice spot to gaze down at the city below while not dangling from the gondolas.
