Songshan Ciyou Temple 松山慈祐宮

Anchor point

Built in 1753, Ciyou Temple is dedicated to the deity Black Faced Mazu. The temple is square, rises six floors and has an impressive main hall. The roof ridge is elaborately adorned with twin dragons facing three immortals representing wealth, happiness and longevity—a motif symbolizing divine protection. The stone lions at the main hall were carved in 1803. Unusually, the male lion is depicted with an open mouth and the female with mouth closed.

This is a beautiful and underrated temple! Right next to one of the gates of the Raohe Night Market, it looks beautifully lit at night and it equally enjoyable during the day time. The temple has stairs to access the multiple stories. I heavily recommend going up those, the view gets better and better and you get to see the artistry at each floor. Intricately carved, in a mtitude of colours and heavy detailing - thia temple is a delight. No entry fee, you can buy some offerings, use the praying wooden blocks for free (Ofcourse!).

Nice temple at the end of the night market

Over 250 years led, this multi-level temple is a bit different in that it is not always asking to buy the incense and candles, you can donate or not. Worth the visit. Plan for one hour or so.

    Beautiful 3-tier temple

Even if you have no intention of going to the Raohe Night Market, it is worth taking the green line to its eastern terminus to view and visit the beautiful, colorful Songshan Ciyou Temple to admire its mosaic-like decorations.

    Like a festival

It is a temple at the entrance of Raohe night market, and I happened to visit when I went to the night market. As its illumination was very artificial, and there was a mass crowd of the market nearby, it was like a day of festival. There were also many tourists visiting.

    Stunning old Chinese temple

Ciyou Chinese temple is located at the eastern end of Raohe Night Market and just nearby Songshan Train Station. It is such a beautiful and old temple and very ornate and tall with many golden roofs and curled corners and very intricate and colourful carvings and is one of the most impressive temples in Taipei. The best tome to visit the temple is in the evening time with it is lit up, however, being at the end of Raohe Jie means that lots and lots of visits will also be here so the place can get quite crowded. I visited this temple once already but plan to visit again as we love to come to Raohe Night market and do like the Songshan district of Taipei.
