The Taipei Grand Mosque is a center of worship for Taipei's Muslims community. Designed by the renowned architect C.C. Yang, the mosque was built in 1960 with funds donated from Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. The main distinguishing feature of the mosque is its enormous domed roof. The dome is 15 meters high, 15 meters in diameter and is supported entirely without beams. The mosque is adorned with handmade Persian rugs and chandeliers presented by kings of countries allied with Taiwan. The mosque also has two minarets that rise impressively to over 20 meters. When visiting Taipei Grand Mosque, please be sure to follow the mosque rules. Only Muslims are allowed to enter the main prayer hall and second floor prayer hall for women.

    Mosque for Taipei's Muslims

The Republic of China on Taiwan has a long history o religious toleration. There are many Musslims in Taipei, to whom the mosque ministers. Friday prayers are popular.

This mosque needs much support and total renovation

This mosque is the biggest and most famous mosque in Taiwan. It was built according to Arabic architecture. The original building is from the late 40's but the current one is from 1960. The mosque has suffered damage from the earthquake and lack of maintenance and support. It's in a poor condtion. There is a renovation project on the way with support of the local government. So, I hope when I visit the mosque next time it would be in a better condition.

    Friday Prayer

Lovely atmosphere for Friday prayers. I particularly liked the food offering in the attached hall - a real community atmosphere and reasonably priced Halaal food.

    Mosque of Taipei

If you are in the area of Daan park, you should have a look at the Taipei Grand mosque. Easier to visit during the Morning.
