Oasis in the Concrete JungleDaan Park (大安森林公園 also known as Daan Forest Park) is a public park located in the centre of the Daan District of Taipei City, Taiwan. The 25.9 hectares (64 acres) Daan Park started development 1985 and opened in March 29, 1994 as the largest urban park in Taipei City. Taipei City is a basin surrounded by Yangmingshan (陽明山) to the north, Linkou mesa (林口臺地) to the west, and the ridge of Xueshan Range (雪山山脈) to the southeast. The city is very humid and hot, especially in the summer, and turned into an urban heat island (熱島效應) causing high temperatures of over 38℃ (100.4 ℉) to become normal in Taipei City. Daan Park acts as the fresh "urban lung" that can clean up air, reduce noise, and adjust the temperature. You can enter the park from the main entrance located at the intersection of Xinyi Road (信義路) and Xinsheng South Road (新生南路) or any gate surrounding the park. Inside the park, you can find a playground, roller rink, roller-skating area, outdoor fitness, basketball court, jogging path, sculptures, ecological pond and outdoor amphitheater. In addition to those facilities, trees and flowers are the main components of the park. One of my favorites is the ecological pond which really makes this park an oasis in the concrete jungle. This small pond is the paradise of countless wild birds, water creatures, and other animals in all four seasons. I can spend hours here taking pictures of the nature. According to a study, there are more than 60 species of birds found in the park. One of the most popular birds that attract tons of photographers each spring is the five colors Taiwan barbet (五色鳥). You can spot the newborn birds waiting for their busy parents flying back and forth to find food. Besides the colorful birds, you can easily find the Sparrow, Light-vented bulbul, Magpie, Black-crowned night heron, Red mouth black bulbul, Japanese white-eye, and many others. The park is a popular location for people to come here for walking, dancing, and practicing tai chi in the morning and evening. I remember there were the Taipei Flower Shows during 2003 to 2010 in the park, and it was a large exhibition of countless flowers. Taiwan is one of the major flower exporters worldwide. Because Daan Pak is in the city center, it is easy to reach either by city bus or by subway. There is an underground car park underneath the park with 1,452 parking spaces. The 900 seat outdoor amphitheater is a popular location for free concerts or dramas. Because it is in downtown Taipei City, you can easily get food and drinks, but bringing your own water is more convenient especially in the summertime.

Peaceful and pretty but a bit tired around the edgesI walked through this park twice a day for 3 weeks whilst on a nearby language course. It's a very peaceful place full of old and young doing various activities. There is a small bird lake which is interesting but on the whole the place looks to be in need of some sprucing up.
Good place for walking and people watchingLocated on Xinyl Rd Sec 3 and the the Red MRT line, Daan Park offers quite a few options for activities. There are many walking paths, a large pond with a variety of foliage and birds, picnic areas, flower beds, many benches and a concert stage. When I was there in April there were a number of school children having classes there.
lovely park in the citywe were staying at a hotel right by here. it's a lovely park for a stroll with lots of pathways. we went in august so it was very hot and humid so recommend visiting in cooler months.
Great parkThis is a great park for walking around and for the children to play. There is a large pond with a lot of birds. The children's playpark is really good as well with things for all ages. There are plenty of areas to relax and have a picnic as well. An oasis in the middle of the city.
