Sunday:10:00 - 18:00

Wulai Old Street paved in stone slate is located at Wulai Street, Pubu Road and Huanshan Road. All the shop signs here have the same style, which gives visitors a feeling of tidiness. As most stores here feature aboriginal culture, you can find specialty aboriginal foods, including roasted boar meat, hot spring eggs, rice dumpling wrapped in Alpinia leaves, rice stuffed in bamboo tubes, Magao cuisine, fried nest fern, and bulb onion. You can also buy millet wine and sticky rice ball as gifts for friends and family. Visitors here can watch aboriginal singing and dancing performances to feel the vitality of the aboriginal culture.

A small quainted noatagic food street

The street is barely 200m long, but lined up with many local yummy cuisines. One must not miss the wild board bbq sausage. The best stall is located near the bridge. 1 sausage for NT 35 or 3 for NT 100. Their special sause is unique and they barbeque only upon ordering so be prepared to wait. There are also many restaurants who do upon order cooking local cuisines. The veggie are all so fresh, must eat.

What's interesting at Wulai Old Street

Wulai Old Street is rather short, I think just 100metres long, but there are several goodies to enjoy in this aboriginal town. 1. Taiwanese sausage - there are two stores and both are located near the end of the street, just before the second bridge. 'Yue Qiu' which means 'Moon' is the one that created the first Taiwanese sausage. Try to go at around 10am, both stores have long queues after! 2. Taiwanese black pig - most cafes/restaurants here serve this dish, simply because it's a staple among the aboriginal tribes who hunts these pigs in the mountains. While at the restaurant, also try the fried river shrimps and white bait from the rivers here! 3. Fried century or 'thousand year old' eggs - you won't miss this store with the numerous celebrities photos they put up at the store. 4. Rice products - (1) bamboo rice can be tried both as a snack as you walk around or a main dish during your lunch (2) Mua-chee or "Maji" is the pounded, chewy rice snack that's also a common product by the aborigines and are freshly made here. You can buy them back for souvenirs. 5. Souvenirs - all the handcrafted aboriginal products e.g. costumes, bags and toys made here are a great way to support the locals living here. The second bridge with the glass bottoms over the rushing river waters marks the end of the Wulai Old Street. If you want to shop more, there's another stretch of walking street with shops when you take the mini Wulai Scenic train 1.5km up the mountain to the waterfall station. This street has more cafes for you to enjoy the waterfall's scenery.

    Nice old street at Wulai

The Wulai old street is not long street. Can finish the entire walk within 1 hr. however, you May spend some time at the aboriginal Resturant and try their food. Remember to try the sausage at the end of the street. There is a aborigin museum at the start of the street worth visiting.

    Restaurants and souvenir shops

This is the Main Street of Wulai. On both sides of the street, there are restaurants, souvenir shops, hotels etc. There is also a public bath. It is a typical touristic village.
