Tamsui Old Street 淡水老街

The far end of Old Street opens onto the Fisherman's Wharf, which is a perfect locale for viewing the sunset. Here also are the docks from whence travelers may ferry across the harbor to Bali.

Great walking street with lots of shopping, eating, Taiwan culture...

This is the main drag for Tamsui, lots of shops serving, selling, showing the finest this fishing village has to offer. Then you have Uniqlo and other shops. Well worth the time to scout around, see the Market off this street as well...Good luck and enjoy!

    Crowded and energetic

Lovely and colourful place with plenty of good Taiwan street food (try the fried squid and local pink guava!) and souvenirs. It is slightly on the touristy side and can get very crowded during the weekends or holidays, but I did enjoy its energy level and walking around the area.

Relaxing nice place for a day trip

The most recommended place for tourist in north Taiwan. Take the Mrt Red Line to Tamsui (淡水), the northern terminus station. Upon exiting the station, turn left to reach Tamsui Old Street and the waterfront.

It’s a nice little very-relaxed town easily accessible via the Tamsui Station of the Metro. It offers a nice view of Tamsui River even at night. There are a few souvenir shops here. The cool light breeze made a walk around the Riverside Park relaxing.

Nice place to visit with things to see and stuffs to buy

    2017-10

Sure, it takes some time to travel from Taipei to Tamsui but it will be worth the journey. Train ride was comfortable and once alight at Tamsui train station, one could start perusing the knick-knacks found along the Old Street. So many things to eat, to see and to buy. Suggest to come for lunch and to stay till sunset. There are restaurants if you would like to a sit down meal, or simply buy the snacks as you stroll. Visited with family and we had lunch at one of the shops selling famed local delicacy such as 'ah ge', fishballs soup and noodles. There is a souvenir shop selling Taiwan childfood toys and snacks, and it was interesting browse through the items in there as it is similar to those things that I've enjoyed when I was a kid. You know those styrofoam plane that you could toss in the air and it'll glide back to you? That shop has it! Oh, and do try local Taiwanese fruits if you come across the stall that lined the street. I bought the rose apple (jambu air) from the vendor and it was so good that I regretted not buying more. Cheaper here too. Tamsui has a specialty snack that's made of fish (yu shu / fish crackers) and tasted like twisties. Bought the spicy and cheesy flavours. Yes, both were good and the spicy ones goes well with beer. The more you buy, the better the discount would be. Once you have satisfied the shopping needs, and on the way back to the train station, do hang around the riverwalk to see the sunset view. Sampans (small boats) tied to the shore, seagulls idling and a small hill in front makes a picturesque view.
