R Tamsui-Xinyi Line Tamsui
For a change of scenery and paceWe hopped on an MRT train on the red Tamsui-Xinyi line and headed to Tamsui one afternoon. It took about 40 minutes from Taipei Main Station. Upon arrival at Tamsui Station, the last stop on the western end of the red line, we simply followed the crowd and ended up at Tamsui Old Street, walking around shops and food stalls. With the river close by, I felt that there was a more relaxed vibe in this district, a popular haunt for locals wanting a break from the hustle and bustle of Taipei city life. We didn’t find anything that caught our eye in particular, and even though the late afternoon sun wasn’t blazing, we found it quite a challenge walking around due to the thick layer of humidity that clung onto us every time we stepped out of an air-conditioned area. To escape the heat, we decided to take a ferry ride to catch the sunset at the Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf. Be warned: the place was a bit underwhelming for us. If anything, we can now say that we have been to Tamsui, if it ever pops up in conversations about Taipei.
Long food streetAs famous as the taipei shilin , but this street is really long. During the summer like now, better to come in the evening when it's cooler
Traditional old street full of authentic foods/shopsThis is an excellent place to come for nostalgic foods that are being prepared in the traditional way. Plus with the nearby good sea view, you will definitely love it here. If you like shopping, there are also numerous small shops for you to shop away.
Great streetThis is old street in tamsui... many store there..exit mrt tamsui and you will find old street... many old building there
Best marketplace to visitEveryone told us Shilin or Ximeng night market is best but actual Tamsui day market is much better bc it’s by the beach and they have so much stuff to buy.
