Walking around is the best way to experience the beauty of ceramics in Yingge. You are advised to visit the old street in a pair of comfortable shoes. The old street is located at Wenhua Road, Jianshengpu Road and Chongqin Street, the area where numerous ceramic factories and old kilns congregated in the past. Now this place has been turned into a ceramics shopping area open only to pedestrians. There are many special shops on the old street, which sell pretty ceramic pots that grow small plants. These pot plants are good decorations for office desks and ideal souvenirs of your visit. Strolling on the old streets, visiting studios of local ceramics artists and taking a closer look at ceramic artworks are all good ways to enjoy your stay here. You can also admire the splendid ceramic collage on the wall on Jianshanpu Road. When you want to take a break, you can sit on a ceramic chair to enjoy the artistic atmosphere of this ceramics town.

If you like ceramics, you'll love this street

The Yingge area has a long history of ceramics production. Pottery is still made in the area. Take a walk along the street, you are under no pressue to buy. Some of the ceramics are outstanding, some are a little tacky. You're almost sure to find something that interests you. Gettng there is no problem, Yingge is'about half an hour from Taipei on the Taiwan Railways West Coast Line.

If you like ceremics, it is heaven

It is only a 30-minute train ride from Taipei railroad station. If you like pottery and ceramics, you can easily spend a few hours there. Only some stores take credit cards though, so ask in advance. I would suggest to go around once and make mental notes of what you like or not and try to compare prices (they are about the same). I personally do not like things that a mass-produced (i.e. things that you see in many stores). Rather, I found things that are unique and only available in one or two stores. But that's just me. If I could carry more, i would have bought a lot more stuff. Very happy there.

    Nice ceramic shop

We enjoyed strolling the streets and window shopping. They have lots of cool ceramic wares for sale and knick-knacks. There are some nice souvenirs to purchase. If you have 1/2 day to spare, then I would recommend visiting.

    Ceramics Heaven

I love ceramics so thoroughly enjoyed the place. There is quite the variety to satisfy all tastes. It's actually fun looking at some of the tacky stuff. The best part for me is finding the equivalent of the outlet shop (i.e. discounted) for Lin's Ceramics nearby. There is a proper shop along ceramics street but look for the other one with discounted items.

    Potty !

A little out of Taipei by train !we got on the wrong train and had to double back ! But that all added to the fun lol lots to look at but a bit the same same in each shop! The walk from the station to the pottery street is interesting lots of you guessed it pottery shops but they felt more authentic and made by the potter ! We thought it would be a half day adventure but as most shops open after 11am and lots to see it was 4pm by the time we left ! If you like pottery tea pots etc the well worth the trip if you tracking and this is your first stop then carting heavy breakable items around Taiwan may be not the best option so may be at the end of your trip !!
