The Taipei Marathon, founded in 1986, is Taiwan’s largest city marathon and has the fastest average finish times. The race course begins at Taipei City Hall Plaza, passes 24 of Taipei’s unique landmarks, and finishes at the Taipei Municipal Stadium. It is the first marathon in the world to receive carbon footprint certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI) and, in 2024, it was awarded World Athletics (WA) Gold Label status for the first time. The event has become a signature activity for Taipei’s urban marketing and tourism promotion, and it serves as a representative sports card for the city on the international stage.
