Preliminary activities are held starting in December to create and promote a New Year’s Eve activity that people should take part in at least once in a lifetime. Lights are put up around the City Hall to transform Taipei into the “Highest New Year City” and let people from Taiwan and overseas see its diverse faces. There is a mass party on the evening of December 31 in which solo performers and groups from Taiwan and overseas perform in relay for six hours. The final countdown to the new year is accompanied by the eye-catching Taipei 101 fireworks show. Hundreds of thousands of people celebrate the New Year together at Taipei New Year's Eve Party.
