Hot Spring Heritage Tour
Do you feel like a relaxing hot spring soak? All it takes is a 30-minute trip on the Metro to the Xinbeitou Station for your wish to be fulfilled!
Because of its rising steam and sulfurous fumes, people once considered Thermal Valley to be the home of witches. In fact the indigenous Ketagalan Tribe called this place "Pa-tauw," which means "witches." As a result, Beitou was referred to as the place of witches. When you leave the Xinbeitou Station, you will see Beitou Park straight ahead of you, and you will immediately realize that you have reached the home of witches. If you continue up the hill for a little while, you will reach Thermal Valley, which is the source of water for the hot springs of Beitou. However, because the water in Thermal Valley itself is scalding hot, with a temperature of 60°C or even 70°C, make sure to avoid burns by not touching the water at its source. Beitou has many restaurants serving hot springs cuisine with distinctive local features.
After a meal, you can sip tea and appreciate the Japanese-style features at the Beitou Museum, while gazing at Mt. Datun in the distance.
You can also appreciate the unique and memorable architecture styles in Beitou, where you will find the historic Longnai Hot Spring Japanese-style bath house, Beitou Hot Spring Museum, Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch, and the Plum Garden. Apart from taking photographs, you can experience a traditional hot springs soak that you will remember forever. Alternately, you can soak the weariness from your body at a nearby modern hot spring hotel of your preference, where you can also enjoy Beitou’s matchless green sulfur hot springs!
