National Palace Museum
Located in the Waishuang River area, Shilin, the National Palace Museum is home to more than 690,000 artifacts. Apart from being one of the most celebrated museums of classic Chinese arts, the National Palace Museum ranked 7th among the most popular museums in the world in 2013. The National Palace Museum was originally established in the Forbidden City, Beijing. However, beginning in 1931, the artifacts were moved several times in order to protect them from war and destruction, and they finally ended up in Taiwan. In 1965, the museum was reconstructed and reopened in its current location. The museum regularly displays magnificent exhibitions, allowing its precious artifacts to be enjoyed by the public. The greatest treasures of the museum, apart from the large Western Zhou bronze vessel "Mao-kung Ting," include world famous works of art such as the Northern Song Dynasty artist Fan Kuan’s "Travelers Among Mountains And Streams” and Su Shi’s calligraphic work "The Cold Food Observance." Additionally, life-like jade carvings such as Jadeite Cabbage with Insects and Meat-shaped Stone will leave you impressed and amazed. The Silks Palace restaurant next to the National Palace Museum offers "National Treasure Banquet" by skillfully integrating the treasures of the museum into their dishes. Visitors will be able to enjoy a feast after feasting their eyes at the museum. And by the way, if you would like to take a romantic evening stroll in the museum, Friday and Saturday nights are a good time to visit, as the main hall is open until 9 pm on those days.
