One of the wonders of Taipei is that the city is surrounded by amazing natural landscapes.

Hidden away in the mountains north of Taipei City is a pocket of nature that gives way to peaceful getaways and gorgeous scenery. You’d never expect nature to be so accessible so close to a city, but for those looking to be immersed in peace and quiet, Baishihu offers the perfect destination!

Baishihu Suspension Bridge is situated next to the Bishanyan Kaizhang Shenwang Temple. The bridge has been specifically designed to blend into its surroundings and mitigate swaying. The bridge spans 116 meters in length, and when seen from afar, is meant to look like a dragon’s spine.

Crossing the bridge will take you to the Baishihu Agricultural Recreation Area, the first of its kind in Taipei. Here, you’ll find a footpath that connects hidden temples, quaint cafés, and beautiful mountain terrain.

The Baishihu Agricultural Recreation Area is also home to many orchard farms that are open to the public. And if you have a sweet tooth, stop by from December to May, when visitors pick luscious strawberries.  Taiwan’s strawberries are famous for being juicy and sweet with a bit of tartness.

Nearby, there is a heart-shaped lake and a pair of ancient trees, known as the “husband-and-wife trees.”

On your way back to town, there’s still more to explore! First, don’t forget to stop by the Jinlong Temple for a look around this majestic religious site, or take a hike on one of the nearby trails.  Plus, on the adjacent mountain top is the Bishanyan Kaizhang Shenwang Temple where you can snap the perfect panoramic shot of Taipei City… especially after nightfall, when the vistas are especially romantic and eye-catching.
