Zhongshan Hall
Completed in 1936, Taipei Zhongshan Hall was known as Taipei City Hall during Japanese era. This was where the Japanese signed the surrender document when the Nationalist government took over Taiwan after the end of World War II, and many historic photographs are displayed here.
Taipei Zhongshan Hall is constructed from steel reinforced concrete. The design of the hall is symmetric and combines classic and modern styles. Eastern elements such as red ceramic tiles is used on the exterior walls, which are decorated with traditional Chinese lattice-style ventilation windows. The walls are covered with pale green tiles and mosaic tiles that are arranged in decorative patterns. Such a design was quite innovative at the time.

For example, activities such as the annual Children’s Art Festival, Taipei Traditional Arts Festival, and Taipei Film Festival have been held in the main hall. As for the Fortress Cafe, Taipei Lecture Hall and Director Tsai’s Café Galerie on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor, apart from food and drink, various exhibitions and art and cultural classes are offered as well.
