Taipei City invested much effort to tap into MICE-related markets in recent years. After promoting Taipei's advantages in MICE in Korea on July 15, the Department of Information and Tourism Deputy Commissioner Li Li-chu, 2019 Taipei City MICE Improvement Project Co-director Lin Shu-hui, and Taipei Expo Office (founded in March this year) Manager Chuang Ya-ting traveled to Tokyo on July 17 to invite local MICE organizers to host their activities in Taipei City.

For this trip to Japan, they visited JTB, the largest travel agency in the country. The company perceived great importance in the meeting and appointed Asia Pacific Department Director Mikako Hotta and Operations and Planning Department Director Hideki Mitsuhashi to lead the meeting on behalf of JTB. Deputy Commissioner Li introduced in detail the subsidies offered by Taipei City Government, showcasing the beauty of Taipei via the film Taipei in Action. She also presented tea and pineapple cake from a century-old teahouse in Taipei as a token of the city's friendly hospitality. Li commented that Taiwan has always had a close relationship with Japan, and it is hoped that the meeting will help create a communication channel with JTB; in the future, Taipei City Government will endeavor to maintain a good collaborative relationship in order to incentivize more MICE organizers in Japan to host their activities in Taipei City.

While in Tokyo, Deputy Commissioner Li and international MICE consultants hired by Taipei City Government met with Chief Producer Fukui Shohei of the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi. She presented Fukui with a letter of appointment on behalf of Mayor Ko Wen-je, and the delegates from Taipei consulted with the chief producer on issues pertaining to the development of MICE industry in Taipei City, who expressed his recognition towards Taipei City Government’s efforts in promoting the MICE industry. In addition, he hopes that Taipei City and various Japanese cities can engage in further exchange and collaborations for MICE-related activities.

Deputy Commissioner Li personally introduced the advantages of Taipei City to over 90 organizers such as PwC and the Japanese Orthopaedic Society of Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine, including convenient transport, hospitality, professional MICE service, and diverse MICE venues. Furthermore, she also took the opportunity to introduce some of Japanese tourists’ favorite attractions in Taipei such as the National Palace Museum and Beitou hot spring. She invited the Japanese MICE organizers to come to Taipei to savor Michelin Guide recommended delicacies and pearl milk tea, which has taken Japan by storm in recent years.
