The Maokong Gondola will suspend operations starting May 11 for annual systemwide checkup and maintenance works. The facility will reopen on Saturday, May 30.

The announcement is broadcasted across gondola stations and MRT stations, as well as shown on platform monitors, the GO! Taipei Metro app, and on Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation’s (TRTC) Facebook page.

In accordance with the suggestion of the company constructing the gondola, TRTC conducts a yearly inspection spanning equipment maintenance and tests to ensure the stability and security of the facility. This year’s checkup will cover gear boxes, backup motors, wheel bearings, brake calipers, and exit guiding system, and more. The company will also conduct a series of tests to examine issues such as power system and encumbrance.
Maokong Gondola Closed for Annual Maintenance May 11 – 29
The annual maintenance of the gondola is typically conducted in May. This allows the gondola to continue to serve visitors during major summer holidays such as Mother’s Day (May 10th in 2020) and Dragon Boat Festival (June 25th in 2020). Also, it avoids the rain season between June and August, which often lead to poor weather conditions in the mountainous regions of the city.

For more information, please contact the 24-hour hotline of TRTC (02-218-12345) or the 1999 Citizen’s Hotline.
