With the approach of Chinese New Year holiday and Yangmingshan Flower Festival, the Taipei City Police Department (TCPD) announced a series of traffic control measures for a number of tourist hotspots across Taipei City.
The CNY long holiday will take place between February 10 and February 16. Furthermore, the 2021 Yangmingshan Flower Festival will kick-off on February 5. For Taipei alone, large visitor turnout is expected for locations including Yangmingshan, the National Palace Museum, Taipei Children’s Amusement Park, Shilin Residence, and more.
In light of overwhelming vehicle and visitor numbers, the officers of Shilin Police Precinct plan to sacrifice part of their holidays to maintain traffic flow in the neighborhood. The agency reminds the public to be on the lookout for traffic control measures being implemented across the district:
Temporary Checkpoints:
TCPD will establish 3 temporary checkpoints to monitor uphill vehicles heading to Yangminshan at the following locations – Yangde Boulevard and Zhicheng Road intersection; Fulin Road and Zhongyong Street intersection, and Lane 1 of Zhishan Road Section 2. As for downhill traffic, flexible checkpoints will be set up at these two locations depending on actual needs: Gezhi Road and Jingshan Road intersection, and the intersection of Gezhi Road and Kaisyuan Road.
Checkpoint Dates and Hours:
Traffic control measures will be implemented for uphill traffic between 7 AM and 4 PM during the Yangmingshan Flower Festival (February 5 through March 21).
To minimize the possibility of traffic jams, officers will be dispatched to the various tourist hotspots during the CNY holiday to direct traffic (February 10 through 16).
Visitors are encouraged to take public transportation to the aforementioned tourist spots to avoid being stuck in traffic jams and wasting time to search for parking spaces.
