On August 7, Mayor Ko Wen-je accompanied mayoral first lady Dr. Peggy Chen to go grocery shopping at the Huannan Market in Taipei City. He noted that the visit is not only to replenish supplies for his family, but also show his support for the vendors at the market.

Ko stressed that Huannan Market is probably the safest location in Taiwan, since all staffs working at the market have been fully vaccinated. The market itself has been cleaned and disinfected multiple times, so he can guarantee that it is currently the cleanest market on the island.

Carrying a reusable shopping bag, the mayoral first lady remarked that she only visited the market to buy groceries on Sundays during the Level 3 COVID Alert. Due to the regulations on diverging crowd flows based on ID numbers, she hasn’t been able to shop at the market on Saturday for a long period of time. She also expressed her gratitude to Chairman Lin Sheng-dong for arranging the visit, allowing her to voice her support for market vendors and friends living in Wanhua District.

Chen pointed out that the mayor enjoys vegetarian meals on a regular basis, once he is able to have a meal at home, she would prepare abundance of vegetables for him. She jokingly added that she usually buys whatever she wants in the market, besides, she has her personal porter around today, so she can buy even more vegetables including mayor’s favorite tofu skin. At the recommendation of Chairman Lin, she also bought some chicken and garlic in order to prepare chicken garlic soup for her two kids to increase protein.

The mayoral first lady stressed that the merchandise which are available at Huannan Market are fresh and numerous. She also pointed out that the workers and vendors at the market are all vaccinated and undergo regular PCR screening. The control standard is comparable to those of a hospital, making the market the safest in Taiwan.

She also kindly reminded that housewives can use the time of the week buying, and career women can use weekends buying, and also buy enough at one time, to help and to cheer up the vendors in the Huannan Market.
