TPEDOIT Commissioner Tries out Restaurant Bus Ride
On the first day of operation (December 14), Commissioner Liu Yi-ting of the Department of Information and Tourism joined the group as a one-day guide, introducing the passengers to the 5-star entrees and unique tourist spots of Taipei during the inaugural tour.

The combination of double-decker bus, fine dining, and tourist attractions convinced many people to sign up for the ride. The tour is so popular that the booking system grinded to a halt at one point due to overwhelming accesses on the first day of reservations. Tickets for the afternoon tea ride quickly sold out on the first day.

Commissioner Liu noted that Taipei’s restaurant bus is the first of its kind in Taiwan. It is also worthy to note that the night scenes at Xinyi district and East Taipei are simply amazing, so he encourages visitors to buy their tickets for a nighttime tour of the city.

The black double-decker restaurant bus is roughly 20 centimeters taller than standard buses. As for on-board dining, tables come equipped with specially-designed acrylic cup holders to keep beverages in place during the trip. The meals are delivered by waiters, and the menu for the current season is a collaboration with the Regent Hotel Taipei. The entrees include wagyu beef cheek bourguignon and Robins Grill’s classic cream of mushroom soup. The afternoon tea course offers favorites such as the French brioche, madeleine, and canelé.

To celebrate the launch of the restaurant bus, discounts such as “10-percent discount for pair tickets” and “50-percent-off for a fourth ticket when buying three tickets” are currently available. TPEDOIT is also offering the first 1,000 people to experience the restaurant bus a bonus – a commemorative porcelain plate set!

Reservation for the restaurant bus is required three days before the tour date. For more details, please visit the Chinese website of Taipei Restaurant Bus: www.taipeirestaurantbus.com
