The Hakka Affairs Commission of Taipei City supervised the Taipei Hakka Cultural Foundation (THCF) in the organization of the “Cute Tiger Playing Flowers – Spring Festival Good Luck Flower-viewing” from March 4 through 5 at the Taipei Hakka Cultural Park to celebrate the lunar birthday of Bogong (Earth God).
Hakka communities venerate the Earth God and celebrate his birthday on the second day of the second month of the lunar calendar. This year, the date falls on March 4, and rituals of blessing will be held at the event. On March 5, there will be a free Xindinban (newborn cake) charm DIY lesson at 10:30 AM, followed by a traditional “Xindin New Branch Blessing Ceremony,” inviting parents to offer their prayers and help their newborns put on safety charms to bring good luck and prosperity.
Meanwhile, the spring festival celebration also invites merchants and vendors from Taichung’s Dongshi District to set up shop at the “Picnic Market” and promote indigenous craft and culture. There are also events such as live Xindinban Live Cooking Show, Hakka dialect hands-on experience through Earth God and Goddess cards, DIY class, and more.
There is also an interactive theater combining music and play. Also, for the first 10 winners of the bingo game, they will be eligible to attend a free “Trail of Tung Flower to Hakka Village One-day Tour” at Dongshi District in Taichung worth NT$4,000!
