The Department of Civil Affairs (DCA) announced that the official mini-lantern for the 2023 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taipei will be given away to the public during the first days of the event!
Between February 4 and 6, the mini-lantern “Rainbow Rabbit” will be handed out at the main exhibition area and across all 12 administrative district lantern zones starting at 3 PM. A total of 80,000 mini-lanterns will be distributed, so pick them up while supplies last!
There are two ways to acquire the free lanterns: line up in person at the designated counters or through online reservation. For those who prefer to wait in line, please visit the information counters at the main exhibition area (No. 10 counter at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, or at the outdoor observation deck information counter in the southeast corner of Taipei City Hall) or those across the 12 administrative district lantern zones.
Each individual is eligible to receive one mini-lantern. For those who need additional lanterns, they need to line up again.
Online reservations will be accepted starting 10 AM on February 1 via the TaipeiPASS application. You can make a reservation using one of the following ID verification methods: National Health Insurance Card; Citizen Digital Certificate, or TW FidO. Each account is limited to one mini-lantern. The lanterns can be picked up between 3 and 6 PM (between February 4 and 6) at the outdoor observation deck information counter located at the southeast corner of city hall building. Each account will be assigned a time slot for pickup, thereby eliminating the need for users to wait in long lines. Please come at the designated time to pick up your lantern, and you will need to show your TaipeiPASS or ID document to verify your reservation status.
Reminder: TaipeiPASS account registration will require a processing time between 2 to 4 days. For website reservations, please make sure that your desktop computer is connected to a card reader.
