TRTC: Station Approaching Announcement to Include Broadcast in Korean

To increase the convenience for foreign tourists visiting Greater Taipei Area, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) announced that it will add station approaching broadcast in Korean for 15 stations and expand Japanese announcements to a total of 21 stations. The broadcast will be implemented by the end of August.

The station approaching broadcast in Korean will be available for the following MRT stops: Taipei Main Station, Zhongshan, Dongmen, Taipei 101/World Trade Center, Tamsui, Ximen, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Minquan W. Road, Songjiang Nanjing, Zhongxiao Xinsheng, Guting, Nanjing Fuxing, Zhongxiao Fuxing, Daan, and Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.

For the broadcast in Japanese, the initial list implemented in August 10, 2018 include 13 MRT stations. However, after noticing the growing need of Japanese tourist for transitting, TRTC will add 8 more stations to the list, including: Minquan W. Road, Songjiang Nanjing, Zhongxiao Xinsheng, Guting, Nanjing Fuxing, Zhongxiao Fuxing, Daan, and Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.

According to statistics from the Tourism Bureau, a total of 3.4 million Japanese travelers visited Taiwan between 2018 and March of 2023. The second largest group of international visitors during the same period are Koreans, which exceeded 2 million travelers. Additional investigation help reveal the destinations frequented by Korean tourists, including Taipei 101, Huashan Cultural and Creative Park, Yongkang Street, Ximending, Tamsui, Jiufen, and Pingxi. To make travel to these locations easier and more convenient, TRTC decided to implement station arrival broadcast in Korean for MRT stations either near or on the way to these tourist attractions.

In the future, station approaching broadcast will be conducted in the following order: Chinese (Mandarin), English, Japanese, Korean, Minnan, and Hakka. The running display board on top of the doors will include Chinese and English station names, as well as the station code.
