The Taipei Asian Judo Open is the largest international judo competition of its kind in Asia. Due to COVID-19, the event has been suspended for the last three years. With the subsiding of the pandemic, the competition has been reinstated this year with Taipei being the host city.

The local team comprises top athletes from national teams who are training for the upcoming Asian Games, such as National Indigenous Games gold medalist Hsu Wang Shu-huei and National University and College Athletic Games judo champion Liao Yu-jung.

Deputy Mayor Lin Yi-hua and Sports Commissioner Wang Hung-shiang attended the opening ceremony, while Liao Yu-jung served as the oath-taker on behalf of all attending athletes. During her address, the deputy mayor welcomed all the participants to the event and wished them the best in the tournament, as the competition also affects qualifications for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In addition to hosting the Taipei Asian Judo Open from July 1 to July 2, Taipei Gymnasium will also serve as the venue for the upcoming East Asian Cadets and Junior Judo Open Taipei 2023, which is slated for July 4 and July 5.

For those who cannot visit the Taipei Gymnasium to watch the games, streaming is also available, including MOD channel 215, cable TV service (channel 129), Chinese Taipei Judo Federation channel ([Link]), and Public Television Service’s YouTube channel.
