The 2025 Taipei Marathon is set to begin at 6:30 a.m. on December 21, starting in front of Taipei City Hall. At today's press conference (July 15), organizers officially announced that registration for the full marathon lottery will open to the public starting at 4:00 p.m. today. Meanwhile, registration for the half marathon lottery will begin at 4:00 p.m. on August 8, following the close of the full marathon registration period. To celebrate the holiday season, a special Christmas-themed “Breakfast Run” will take place the day before the main race. With two distance options—3 km and 9 km—the event invites participants of all ages to enjoy a joyful, family-friendly running experience and soak in the festive spirit of Taipei.

This year's theme,“Beyond the Finish 走飆極限”emphasizes that true triumph lies not in crossing the finish line, but in the perseverance behind every step. The slogan's Chinese phrase“tzǒu biāu to the limit”(走飆極限) comes from the Taiwanese tsáu-pio (走標), meaning“to race,” and conveys speed and energy through the character“飆.”The key visual combines modern design with subtle depictions of iconic landmarks along the course. More than a global sporting event, the Taipei Marathon has become a dynamic celebration of Taiwanese culture and a nationwide festival of sports.

High Demand Drives Down Draw Rates — 2025 Taipei Marathon Fully Adopts Lottery System
Nicknamed the “final exam” for runners, the Taipei Marathon attracts over 28,000 registrants each year. Since being upgraded to a World Athletics (WA) Gold Label Road Race in 2024, demand for entries has surged—prompting organizers to implement a lottery system for the full marathon category. Last year, the full marathon offered 9,000 slots. After deducting 4,560 reserved entries—including guaranteed qualifiers, invited elites, and WA Gold Label-only participants—only 4,440 spots remained for the public. These were contested by 15,056 applicants, resulting in a record-low 30% success rate. The half marathon, which offered 19,000 slots, reached full capacity within one day of opening registration.

This year, in preparation for the World Masters Games 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City, 4,000 spots (2,000 each for the full and half marathon) were reserved for finishers of the World Masters Games – Athletics Road Race. Registration for these guaranteed entries opened on June 19, and all eligible participants have now completed the process. With fewer public slots available, the 2025 Taipei Marathon will move to a fully lottery-based registration system:
  • Full Marathon: Lottery registration open from July 15 at 4:00 p.m. to July 28 at 5:00 p.m.
  • Half Marathon: Lottery registration open from August 8 at 4:00 p.m. to August 20 at 5:00 p.m.

According to official race statistics, 439 runners finished under 3 hours and 4,135 under 4 hours in 2023. In 2024, those numbers rose to 483 sub-3-hour and 4,214 sub-4-hour finishers. As runner performance improves, more participants now meet the guaranteed-entry standards—further driving down lottery success rates. To attract more international participants and inspire local runners to push their limits, the Taipei Marathon is once again offering 1,000 exclusive “Gold Label Marathon Priority Entry” slots. Runners who register will receive exclusive official merchandise and enjoy guaranteed entry, no lottery required. Spots are limited—don't miss your chance to secure your place!

Top Local Runners Eye Higher Rankings — Prize Pool Raised to NT$500,000! Break Your PB This Year
With its Gold Label-certified course, the Taipei Marathon offers local runners a strategic advantage on familiar ground. At today's press conference, elite runner Edison Huang shared his 2024 experience, where he broke his personal best with a 2:30:05 finish, ranking 17th overall and 6th among Taiwanese runners. He also claimed 1st place in the 30+ age group at the 2025 World Masters Games, proving that breakthroughs come from pushing beyond limits. To inspire more domestic athletes to do the same, organizers have increased the prize pool to NT$500,000 for the top 10 Taiwanese male and female marathon finishers. The champions will receive NT$100,000 each, while 2nd to 10th place finishers will receive performance-based cash awards ranging from NT$50,000 to NT$5,000—a NT$300,000 boost aimed at driving stronger performances. In addition, the top five Taiwanese marathon finishers will each receive a complimentary round-trip ticket on EVA Air to select destinations in Asia, including Tokyo, Osaka, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, or mainland China.

Fubon Financial & adidas Team Up for Sustainability and Performance
Since 2021, Fubon Financial Holdings has championed its “Run For Green™” initiative across Taiwan's four major marathons and designated races. For every 40 kilometers run, Fubon plants a tree—targeting 100,000 trees in five years. So far, the initiative has partnered with 8 counties and cities, planted trees in 14 locations, and seen over 300,000 participants, resulting in more than 100,000 trees planted. To further support local elite athletes, Fubon has also introduced a performance bonus: any Taiwanese male or female runner who breaks the national marathon record will receive a NT$330,000 cash prize.

Meanwhile, adidas is helping runners chase new PBs. As the half marathon moves to a lottery system this year, those selected will be more driven than ever to chase personal bests. adidas, the marathon's premier sponsor, continues its tradition of hosting structured training programs—this year focusing on the half marathon distance. The adidas Runners (AR) Training Camp offers a 12-week program, opening August 15, led by Cheng Tzu-Chien, Head Coach of adidas Runners Taipei and a former national long-distance runner. Alongside a team of crew runners and pacers, the program includes at least two weekly sessions: weekday track workouts and weekend long slow distance (LSD) runs along the riverside. With high-quality coaching and a proven training system, adidas invites runners to push beyond their limits. Space is limited—don't miss your chance to level up!
