A new structure resembling both a tree and a bird's nest has recently appeared at the Formosan Animal Area, which is actually a behavior-enrichment facility designed for Asiatic black bears. Keepers hide food above the pillar, encouraging the bears to sniff, nibble, and push—all natural foraging behaviors.

This facility allows black bears to exhibit more natural movements and provides keepers with valuable feedback.
