In Taipei, street trees reveal different looks as the seasons change. At this time of year, the subcostate crape myrtle is in full bloom, adding a calm, lingering elegance to a central urban thoroughfare and offering a fresh visual treat. On the median islands along Sections 3 and 4 of Minquan East Road in Songshan District, about 90 subcostate crape myrtle trees will gradually open their simple, pure-white blossoms as temperatures rise. The profusion of flowers resembles a touch of first snow in summer, softening the school commute paths and the urban streetscape while shaping a new urban aesthetic for Taipei City.

Taipei City Government has continued in recent years to promote urban greening and beautification by integrating native tree species into their surrounding environments. In addition to maintaining high-quality landscape engineering through routine inspections and management, these efforts provide a comfortable visual experience for commuting residents. The planting configuration along Sections 3 and 4 of Minquan East Road was planned holistically based on pedestrian scale, tree-shade distribution, and visual openness. Because this stretch is close to Sanmin Elementary School and Minquan Elementary School in Songshan District, its planting density was carefully calibrated. The visual spread of the white sea of subcostate crape myrtle blossoms brings a sense of coolness in the hot summer, making the plantings not merely decorative accents but an integral part of the overall street environment. As vehicles pass through the corridor, the blossoms and the city skyline set each other off, creating a summer streetscape with a distinctly Taipei character and adding a moment of appreciation to the daily commute.
