When early summer arrives in June, Taipei City's streets come alive with golden shower trees in full bloom. Cascading clusters of yellow flowers illuminate entire boulevards — long, pendulous racemes pouring from the branches like gilded waterfalls against a backdrop of blue sky. The golden shower tree is a common ornamental species in tropical regions. It bears a visual resemblance to the golden trumpet tree and the two are easily confused from a distance, but a closer look reveals that their flower shapes are entirely different. Because the golden shower tree blooms right when graduation season arrives, it has earned the affectionate nickname "graduation flower." Many golden shower trees across Taipei City have now entered their peak viewing period. Among street trees, Changxing Street, Fulin Road, and Zhongshan North Road are putting on especially spectacular displays. For park settings, Chiang Kai-shek Shilin Residence, Fulin Park, Meilun Park, and Keqiang Park all make wonderful destinations for a leisurely stroll among the blossoms.
