When early summer arrives in June, Taipei City's streets come alive with golden shower trees in full bloom. Cascading clusters of yellow flowers illuminate entire boulevards — long, pendulous racemes pouring from the branches like gilded waterfalls against a backdrop of blue sky. When an afternoon breeze drifts through, petals drift softly to the pavement in a gentle "golden rain," drawing passersby to pause and linger. From green parks to major tree-lined avenues, golden shower trees are blazing across the city right now, their canopies of gold interwoven with the urban greenery, casting a warm, honeyed glow over streets that are otherwise rushing with the pace of city life — and lending early-summer Taipei an undeniable romance and poetry.

The golden shower tree is a common ornamental species in tropical regions. It bears a visual resemblance to the golden trumpet tree and the two are easily confused from a distance, but a closer look reveals that their flower shapes are entirely different. Because the golden shower tree blooms right when graduation season arrives, it has earned the affectionate nickname "graduation flower." Many golden shower trees across Taipei City have now entered their peak viewing period. Among street trees, Changxing Street, Fulin Road, and Zhongshan North Road are putting on especially spectacular displays. For park settings, Chiang Kai-shek Shilin Residence, Fulin Park, Meilun Park, and Keqiang Park all make wonderful destinations for a leisurely stroll among the blossoms. When cascade after cascade of flowers spills down from the treetops and scatters on the wind, the scene feels like something lifted from a foreign film — making this golden rain one of early summer's most irresistible charms.
