Taipei Marathon, held since 1986, is the largest and most unique city marathon event in Taiwan. The main run starts from the square in front of Taipei City Hall, passes 24 distinctive landmarks, and ends at the Taipei Municipal Stadium. The event has been given the Elite Label by World Athletics (WA). It is also the first marathon in Taiwan to receive carbon footprint certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI). The marathon shows that Taipei City is able to host great international sporting events.
