This artwork utilizes “spatial display techniques” showing the cycle of life from birth to withering in a series of timelines. One side shows the power of life and diverse energy with a variety of vibrantly blooming flowers, while on the other side, withered flowers fall and seeds scatter, depicting the end of life and the beginning of rebirth. These two different features show the fleeting side of beauty and also symbolize a part of life—death and rebirth.

Using the comparing and contrasting of life, death, blooming, light, and darkness, it shows the changing chapters of our lives and the world. The contrast between the beautiful blooming flowers and their withering and decay carries the meaning of impermanence. When observing withered flowers, people may not only have the feeling of sadness, but also feel the hope contained in the seeds of the next generation. Blooming and withered flowers are not a contrast between beauty and ugliness, but both have their own beauty. Viewers appreciate the works through their own experiences, emotions, and thoughts about the future.

This work "Life of Light and Shadow" represents the 10th anniversary of signing the friendly exchange agreement between Taipei City and Matsuyama City. It was specially designed to commemorate the Taipei Lantern Festival. This work symbolizes the beauty and emptiness of life, depicting the cycle and regeneration of life through the contrast of life and death, rise and fall, and light and darkness.

In the bright colorful Taipei Lantern Festival, this artwork shows the deep connections between Taipei City and Matsuyama City. The flowers show the friendships of the two cities, and it will continue to grow stronger in the future.
