For college students interested in learning more about mass transit and railways, your opportunity is here! The Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS) is now accepting application for mass transit technical summer interns from today through May 10.
A total of 24 positions are available for the work period between July 4 and August 26. Priorities will be given to students entering their third or fourth year at public and private colleges and universities. According to DORTS, the summer internship program comprises lectures and hands-on activities spotlighting the knowledge and knowhow related to MRT constructions. Unlike other summer programs, the internship at DORTS allows those accepted to visit actual MRT construction sites to learn on-the-job with their mentors.
The agency pointed out that the 8-week-long program includes both technical coursework and general knowledge classes. Depending on their respective expertise, the interns will access facilities spanning MRT construction sites, workshops, and the joint development building to work for the agency departments of assignment.
The summer internship program at DORTS was first introduced in 2017. Through the integration of theory and practice, interns have a chance to experience real working environments before they graduate, thereby enhancing their adaptiveness and enabling a smoother transition from school to work environment when they graduate.
Due to the recent COVID outbreak, DORTS warned that the details and time of the internship program may be adjusted at the last minute (including the possibility of program suspension), so interested students should take that into account before applying.
