Cartoonist Wei Zhong-cheng is pleasantly surprised to see the character he created becomes a 3-dimensional float and he hopes to see more opportunities like this that combines Taiwan’s animation and local culture.

Using a cultural and creative image to draw tourists, the Ximen Development Committee collaborates with Taiwanese cartoonist Wei Zhong-cheng, who uses the female protagonist, deity Matsu in his comic books “ Ming Zhan Lu” as the guardian of the Ximen Shopping District. The image of the local cartoon character is leading the trend of pop culture in Ximen area. Therefore, the Taipei Lantern Festival makes a ultra-large float featuring Mattsu, which is displayed on the pedestrian walk on Zhonghua Road and Emei Street during the event. On the day of the parade, the float will be placed in the end of the procession. Visitors are welcome to dress up and hold their lanterns on the day of the Lantern Festival, to take part in the grand event of the West Town.
