Quaint old street but good food and souvenirsIf you’re looking for a short visit to a traditional looking street near Taipei, Shenkeng is a good option. Located such outside the city, my husband and I visited with our taxi driver on the way from Yilan County (hot springs) to Taipei. It’s picturesque and is loaded with small food stalls and vendors selling trinkets. A good way to spend 1-2 hours and get a flavor of old Taipei city. I appreciated vendors weren’t pushy but this is definitely a tourist destination.
Short old streetVery short old street. Shops are mainly selling food, more like a food street. I spent about an hour to complete the street, not much to see. Famous food is stinky tofu so you must give it a try.

Somewhat unusual Old StreetThis is one of Taiwan old streets I know of which remains open at night during weekdays (the other one is Chiu Fan). This street is known of stinky tofu, so there are several restaurants are open at night. Moreover, most of stores on the street are open to sell local foods or souvenirs.
ReasonableThough the shops are limited, the price offered are reasonable and cheap. Not too crowded and huge walkway for customers.

Tourist AttractionFor a true Taiwanese experience Shenkeng street is a must see. Filled with beautiful architecture of a bygone era. Beautiful restaurants and street food with retail therapy this is an enjoyable excursion. Well worth doing when in Taipei
