Itinerary：Huanmin Village on Chanchushan—Treasure Hill—Museum of Drinking Water —Gongguan Shopping District—The Iso Eikichi Hut, NTU Campus(Mini Cultural Trip Culture Sites)—Jiahe New Village (Mayday Wall)(Mini Cultural Trip Culture Sites)—Taipei City Hakka Cultural Park —The Kishu An Forest of Literature—Changqing Temple & Banyan Tree(Mini Cultural Trip Culture Sites) —Changqing Temple & Banyan Tree—Longquan Street Shopping Area next to Normal University
Human beings are social animals, where communities form due to settlement, life, and work. However, as time passes, some communities are required to be relocated or dismantled and gradually vanish. However, some communities may be preserved to perpetually carry forward these unique and precious cultural connotations and memories for this land eternally.
Situated adjacent to the Shida (NTNU) Longquan Shopping District, the Zhanchushan (Zhanchushan Mountain) Huanmin New Village stands as the sole mountainous military dependents' village in Taiwan. Enriched with humanities, historical significance, and picturesque natural landscapes, this village was thoughtfully built along the mountainside, fostering a lifestyle intertwined with the serene mountainous environment and waterways. This locale also conserves traces of urban development, serving as a crucial site for practicing the harmonious coexistence between urban dwellers and nature.
The riverside Treasure Hill Artist Village in the Gongguan area was constructed alongside the mountainside as well. With its meandering and intricate architectural layout, it showcases a unique settlement appearance in Taiwan. In 2010, the official launch of the "Treasure Hill Artist Village" created a platform for connecting community residents and artists in residency (AIR), infusing new vitality into the artist village.
As for Taipei Water Park in Gongguan, besides offering a joyful aquatic playground for both kids and adults, it also serves as an environmental educational facility centered around the theme of "water resource conservation".
There is also a kindred village of combined service force located on the Yongchun Street in Gongguan area, known as “Jiahe New Village”. In 2022, the “Jiahe Story House” was established to integrate the historical context of the Jiahe New Village into its architectural space, based on the context of the military dependents' village. The objective is to convey, through art experiments, exhibitions, performances, and workshops, the significance of preserving the culture of the military dependents' village.
In addition to the military dependents' village, there is also the Taipei City Hakka Cultural Park, which focuses on six main themes, including “humanities, ecology, education, technology, industry, and farmyard fun”.It aims to create a civic park that embodies both waterfront features and the characteristics of the Hakka culture.
The Kishu An Forest of Literature is an art and cultural space characterized by Japanese architectural style. Its traditional Japanese wooden structures and tatami mats offer visitors an immersive experience reminiscent of Japan.
Finally, in the Shida Longquan Shopping District, visitors can explore a variety of delicious and affordable night market cuisines, greatly favored by the nearby students.
